OLIVE FAYE CARTER MESSER, 70, is safe in the arms of Jesus, passing to life everlasting on August 17, 2005, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. Faye was born the 10th child of Gus and Lucy Carter, on June 21, 1935, in Olive Hill, Ky. She married Claude Messer in 1956 and began a home in Grayson, Ky. Surviving are “Sweet Pea’s” husband of 49 years, Claude Messer, her son and daughter-in-law, Shannon Douglas and Barbara Messer of Lexington, Ky.; and daughter and son-in-law, Claudia “Tweedy” and Rick Flesher of Huntington, W.Va.; her four grandchildren, Patrick and Shaina Messer of Winchester, Ky., and Whitney and Hayley Flesher of Huntington, W.Va. Also surviving are her brothers, John, Pete and Corky Carter, and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding Faye in death were her parents, her brothers, James and Gussie Carter; and her sisters, Ola June Carter, Mabel McKinney, Goldie Underwood, Mary Sabre Micholovich and Nellie McGlone. Faye was a loyal, long-standing member of the First Church of Christ in Grayson and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 11. Faye has fought a good fight since suffering heart damage as a five-year-old due to rheumatic fever, but eventually succumbed to cancer. God’s earthly plan for Faye exceeded everyone’s expectation and she brought joy to all those who came into contact with this strong, red-headed lady. Her many friends will miss her dearly. Funeral services for Mrs. Messer will be conducted at noon on Saturday, August 20, 2005, at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, Ky. Pastor Phil LeMaster will be officiating. Burial will follow in East Carter County Memory Gardens. Friends may call after 6 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2005, at the funeral home. Sparks Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be sent to the First Church of Christ Building Fund, 116 East 2nd St., Grayson, KY, 41143. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.sparksfh.com.
