Elder Billy R. Cotton 


Elder Billy R. Cotton, age 61, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at his residence. 

He was born Oct. 12, 1942, in Grayson, Ky., a son of the late Eales and Erie Adams Cotton. 

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Cotton, and a sister, Mary Magdalene Cotton. 

He was a retired electrician for AK Steel in Ashland, Ky., was moderator of Mount Sterling Old Regular Baptist Church for 18 years, was moderator of Rose of Sharon Old Regular Baptist Church in Lincoln County, Ky.; and was a Kentucky colonel. 

Surviving are his wife, Teresa Burke Cotton of Flatwoods; three daughters, Brenda Gail Lewis of Ashland, Barbara Lee Shivel and her husband, Robert, of Ashland, and Kimberly Ann Cotton of Flatwoods; four brothers, Milford Cotton, John Cotton and Kenneth Cotton, all of Grayson, and Larry Cotton of Russell, Ky.; four sisters, Ellen Steele of Grayson, Tamery Short of Columbus, Ohio, Marjorie Gose of Grove City, Ohio, and Elizabeth Wilson of Raymond, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Charles David (Trey), Rebecca Elizabeth and Thomas Russell Lewis, Kevin Dwayne II, Tessa Lee and William Caleb Peterman, Robert Lee Jr., and Sarah Kathryn Shivel. 

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at the Mount Sterling Old Regular Baptist Church in Mount Sterling and officiated by David Robinson, James Watts, Paul Boggs, Glenn Pack and others. 

Visitation will be today, Dec. 13, 2003, at 4:30 p.m. at the Little Mary Old Regular Baptist Church on Route 5 in Ashland and Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at 9 a.m. at the Mount Sterling Old Regular Baptist Church. 

Burial will be in Kirby Flats Cemetery in Ashland. 

Active pallbearers will be Robert Shivel, Jeff Cotton, Shaun Spainhower, Charles David Lewis III, Tony Osborne, Tim Knipp, Jeff Allen and Kevin Peterman II. 

Nelson Frazier Funeral Home in Martin is in charge of arrangements.
