William R. FLANNERY From the East KY Journal, Grayson, KY Carter County September 11, 1919 pg. 1 Col. 5 "Old Soldier Dies" " William R. Flannery, father of Sheriff J. M. Flannery, died Wednesday morning at an early hour near Olive Hill, of the infirmities of age , being 74 years old. The remains were laid to rest in the family burying grounds near by. His wife preceded him to the grave some eight years ago. He was the father of twelve children--eight sons and four daughters. The daughters are all dead, also two sons. Surviving are W.H., J.M., I.L., Marion, Rufus, and Joe. The deceased was highly esteemed by all who knew him, and although having passed the allotted years of life, his death is deeply regretted. He was a gallant Union soldier in the War between the States, and saw hard service in that struggle. Peace to his ashes."
